Wierd bug

Our programmers finally managed to build a release version of the game, and I can test it out at home, on better hardware. But I've encountered a wierd problem, shown below in our spanking new menu screen.

So right now the game is about a ghost caravan fighting ghost indians.

Explosions!

Exploding barrels! Will probably be changed to exploding bottles of firewater due to logistical problems with having to toss barrels around... For now, a screenshot of the gam running in dx7 mode, now with cowboys actually holding rifles, a poor woman covering in the center of the screen and the explosion of a barrel/bottle.

Background

Indian Invasion is a western themed game built on the Nebula 2 graphics engine, by a group of students attending a course in game developement at gsCEPT in Skellefteå, Sweden.

Ok, a bit of background:
We were given an assignment as follows (in brief):

Task:
Develop a 3D clone based on of the following classical console games
  • Asteroids
  • Space Invaders
  • Breakout
  • Galaga
  • Galaxy
Requirements:
  1. Nebula engine and the Maya integration shall be used.
  2. Develop the level of abstraction so that new game levels can be created and tuned using scripts, The level of abstraction shall be documented so that it is easy for level designers to configure and create new game levels.
  3. It must be possible to configure resolution, audio, level of difficulty etc in-game via a GUI.
  4. There shall be a 2D GUI showing i.e. power, resources, radar, points …etc
  5. Full documentation of game play and implementation using the document templates

From this we came up with a gamedesign based on the simple idea that indians are trying to steal away the precious women of a caravan headed towards the promising lands of the west. Naturally this forces the cowboys of the caravan to bring out their rifles and start to shoot away mindlessly.
Luckily enough, you are there to help out with the defences of the caravan circle that has been formed in times of utter need. You help the cowboys get their aim straight and defend their helpless women.

See the most recent post of this blog if any of this offends you.
